Indicating good demand, imports into China of scrap polyethylene, polypropylene, PET and PVC totaled 5.6 million tons through August, 2012 up 4%. Imports into China of scrap polymer, in addition to imports of virgin polymer, are an important component of the country’s total demand picture. Scrap polymer import volumes have been relatively strong and steady since March.  Scrap polyethylene was the leading component of the total, 2.4 million tons, up 12%, followed by scrap polypropylene, 1.4 million tons, up 5%, and scrap PET, 1.3 million tons, up 25%.
