In 2024, China reported imports of liquefied propane gas from the US of 17.3 million tons, up 37% from 2023. Through August of 2025, China’s imports from US were down 28%, to 8.2 million tons, the shortfall filled by Middle East and other sources.
There was a strong upward trend in China’s import of liquefied propane gas from US though 2024. As another salvo in the trade war, as of April 2025 China placed a 125% tariff on imports of this liquefied gas from the US. A particularly steep drop in volume from the US was evident in June.

China’s imports August 2025 YTD totaled 19.3 million tons, down 1%. Higher volumes from UAE, Qatar, Oman, Canada, Kuwait and others compensated for the decline from US.
