The Middle East’s largest volume engineering polymer exports were polycarbonates, PET, and ABS. The largest imports were PET and polycarbonates.

Saudi Arabia accounted for nearly all of the Middle East’s exports of ABS, polyacetals, polycarbonates, and PMMA. Oman was the top exporter of PET, followed by UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Asia-Pacific was the top destination for the region’s exports of polyacetals, polycarbonates, and PMMA. Africa was a major market for PET. Exports of ABS were spread mainly across Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Europe.
Asia-Pacific supplied the great majority of the region’s engineering polymer imports with the exception of polyacetals, about half of which was from Western Europe. The strongest gains were on imports of bottle grade PET, 822,000 tons, up 41% (Iraq, Iran, UAE, and Saudi Arabia top growth markets) and film/fiber grade PET, 289,000 tons, up 69% (Iran, Jordan, Bahrain, and UAE showing high growth.
This series of blogs quantifies imports and exports in 2024 of the major engineering polymers – ABS, SAN, Polyacetal, PC, PMMA, and PET – allowing comparisons across the polymers for the geographic regions of Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, North America, Latin America, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
