The volume of caustic soda in aqueous solution traded globally has stayed fairly steady, around 20.5 million tons per year, over the last five years, but there has been a huge change in exports out of Asia-Pacific to other regions.

Import/export statistics from all available reporting countries show the volume of caustic soda in aqueous solution traded globally from 2018 through 2022 ranging between 20.2 – 21.4 million tons over the period.

Asia-Pacific exports to other regions, however, went from 1.1 million tons in 2018 to 2.7 million tons in 2022. Shipments to every region rose sharply.

China and Japan accounted for most of the region’s increased exports, followed by Taiwan.
