Anhydrous ammonia global trade is projected at 6.6 million tons through May 2026, down from 7.2 million tons May 2025 YTD.
The Strait of Hormuz accounts for roughly 20-30% of seaborne ammonia trade, essential for production of nitrogen fertilizers (IFPRI).
Exports from the Middle East were down 40% through May on lower volumes to Asia-Pacific, Africa and Western and Eastern Europe. North America was able to offset part of the declines to Europe and Africa and also expanded shipments to Latin America. (Note different graph scales.)

With imports into Asia-Pacific from the Middle East down by 370,000 tons through May, trade within the region expanded. China exported large volumes to Korea and India plus smaller volumes to markets outside the region, noting Morocco and South Africa.
