China is the world’s largest polyethylene importer, with a volume in 2017 of 13.5 million tons, up 18%.
HDPE was China’s largest volume ethylene polymer import, 6.4 million tons in 2017, up 21%.
Imports of conventional high pressure LDPE were 2.4 million tons, up 16%. Imports of this polymer from the US, which may be impacted by additional tariffs, were 155,000 tons.
Imports of EVA were 1.0 million tons, up 10%.
Imports of ethylene-alpha-olefins copolymers (mainly linear low density) were 3.3 million tons.
