China Increasingly Dominates PET Trade. China’s Exports Accounted for 45% of the Total Volume of PET Traded Globally in 2025, Up From 23% in 2020.

Massive capacity expansion in China has led to growing exports to Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

Over the 2020-2025 period, global trade in PET rose from 11.7 million tons to 17.7 million tons, a CAGR of 8.6%. China’s exports over that period went from 2.7 million tons to 7.9 million tons, a CAGR of 22%. (Note: PET global trade volume is for combined PET bottle and film/fiber grade, measured as exports or imports, which are equal.)

China’s exports were wide-spread, increasing to Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Leading volume markets included: India; Vietnam; Indonesia; Philippines; Korea; El Salvador; Colombia; Peru; Turkey; Ukraine; Russia; Uzbekistan.
