Iran exported 2.7 million tons of ethylene polymers in 2016, up 19%, and 190,000 tons of propylene polymers, down 10%.
Exports of HDPE alone were 1.7 million tons in 2016, up 28%; exports of LDPE were 1 million tons, up 8%; exports of polypropylene homopolymer were 158,000 tons, down 21%.
Polyethylene was exported mainly to Asia-Pacific, with a sizeable volume also to Eastern Europe. Polypropylene was exported mainly to Eastern Europe.
Polyolefin imports into Iran in 2016 were much smaller than its exports, but showed sharp increases from the prior year. In 2016, Iran’s imports of all ethylene polymers were 140,000 tons, up 55%; of all propylene polymers, 50,000 tons, up 56%.
