A 17% increase over the prior year, to more than 1 million tons, is projected for the region’s PET imports in 2013, higher volumes from Asia-Pacific and the Middle East major factors in the gain. Western Europe will import 340,000 tons of PET from Asia-Pacific in 2013, up 44%, and 140,000 tons from the Middle East, up 29%, based on ITP projections. A 7% increase is projected on imports from Eastern Europe, to 460,000 tons. South Korea and India, followed by China, are top sources in Asia-Pacific; Oman, in the Middle East; Lithuania in Eastern Europe.
