China’s imports of ethylene jumped back up to nearly 200,000 tons in June 2017, at an average price of $1077/ton, after two months around 160,000 tons per month. Volume in the first half of the year was up 48% from the same period in 2016.
Ethylene imports through June totaled 1.1 million tons. Leading suppliers included South Korea, 354,000 tons, Japan, 320,000 tons, Singapore, 88,000 tons, Taiwan, 65,000 tons, and Brazil, 42,000 tons.
The volume of ethylene traded globally through June 2017 was over 3.5 million tons, up 8%. Prominent trends included higher imports into Asia-Pacific and also expanded trade within the region, increased exports from the Middle East to Europe and Asia, a drop in trade between Western and Eastern Europe.
