As reported in Business Indonesia, the removal of tariffs on linear low density polyethylene, HDPE and polypropylene began in May 2026 and is to extend for six month. The removal of these duties, and also from LPG imports, were intended to reduce prices along the packaging chain.

Through July 2026, Indonesia imported 971,000 tons of polyethylene (all grades), up 15%, and 804,000 tons of polypropylene, up 2%. Similar to India, Thailand and other importing countries in the region, the shortfall in imports into Indonesia from the Middle East was more than offset by higher volumes from Asia-Pacific, especially China, and, for polyethylene, also from North America.
