China’s PE imports up 13% – 43% through May 2014

China’s imports of LDPE were up 43% YTD; LLDPE up 25%; HDPE up 13%; and EVA, up 31%. A massive surge in imports in January plus relatively high volumes in following months accounted for the large percentage gains. 

Iran was China’s top supplier of both LDPE and HDPE; Singapore of LLDPE; and South Korea of EVA. Although volumes from the United States were smaller, China’s imports of LDPE from that source were up 59%; of LLDPE, up 71%; of EVA, up 54%. Imports of HDPE from the US, however, dropped 36%.
