Butadiene trade totaled over 1.3 million tons in the first half of 2017, up 8% from the same period in 2016. Prominent trends included increased imports into Asia-Pacific and expanded trade within the region, a strong increase in exports from Latin America, and lower exports from Western Europe.
Asia-Pacific imports of butadiene were 231,000 tons, up 26%, growth import markets including South Korea, China, Malaysia and Japan. Shipments by most of the region’s leading exporters increased, including Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and India.
Western Europe exported 190,000 tons through June, based on preliminary data, down 9%, an increase in volumes to Asia offset by declines to the Americas and Eastern Europe.
Latin America’s exports of 122,000 tons, up 34%, included higher volumes to Asia-Pacific but a decline to North America.
