These regional trends were the same for both polymers: lower imports into Western and Eastern Europe and, with the biggest impact on global trade volumes, Asia-Pacific; increased imports into the smaller markets of Africa and Latin America; reduced exports from North America; mixed trends for Middle East exports; higher exports from Asia-Pacific.

United States Exports of PE Trended Higher in January 2020
After slowing in November, 2019, US exports of ethylene polymers climbed in both December and January 2020. Little impact on volumes and prices from the corona virus is expected in US export statistics for February, with March and following months affected more severely.

US Exports of Polyethylene to Africa
The United States reported exports in 2016 to Africa of 30,000 tons of LDPE/LLDPE, down 14%, and 145,000 tons of HDPE, up 98%.
US Exports of Polyethylene to Asia-Pacific
The United States reported exports of LDPE/LLDPE in 2016 to Asia-Pacific of 300,000 tons, up 11%, and 260,000 tons of HDPE, up 9%.
US Exports of Polyethylene to Latin America
The United States reported exports of LDPE/LLDPE in 2016 to Latin America of 850,000 tons, down 11%, and 1.36 million tons of HDPE, up 8%.
HDPE: Current Global Trade Trends
The volume of HDPE polymer traded globally, 7.3 million tons, was up 5% through May, 2015, based on reporting countries. Among the top exporting regions, shipments from the Middle East, Western Europe and Asia-Pacific increased; North America’s were down; markets shifted between exporters. Continue reading
