Unusually Heavy Imports into China

Very heavy imports into China of many products were evident in August 2011, some product volumes near record levels.

Imports into China of nearly all of the products ITP follows posted gains for August. Although China’s imports generally tend to rise in August, the magnitude of the increase this August was particularly impressive for LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, propylene copolymers, EVA, styrene, MEG and SAN.

China’s imports of several of these products were near record levels, including LLDPE, propylene copolymers, EVA, styrene, MEG and SAN. Also at high levels were imports of polyacetals, polycarbonates, ethylene and methanol.

The gains in August shifted year to date percentage change figures toward the positive for many products.

Full detail on volumes in August and year to date, including percentage changes, is available to subscribers in the “Early Release” section of the ITP website.
