China’s imports of recycle PET fell sharply in July, 2017, to 167,000 tons. This compared with monthly volumes as high as 275,000 tons within the last year. The average price picked up slightly, to $508/ton.
Earlier this year China placed new restrictions on imports of all recycle polymers. To date, substantially lower imports were evident in July not only of R-PET but also of R-Polyethylene, R-Polypropylene and R-PVC.
China’s exports of virgin PET, PE, PP and PVC also dropped in July but whether this relates to lower imports of recycle is not clear.
