Cuba’s Polymer Imports

Cuba’s largest polymer imports are HDPE, LDPE and PET. Sizable volumes of polyethylene bags/sacks and polyethylene film/sheet are also imported. Volumes rose sharply in 2015 versus 2014.

Cuba’s imports are visible from exporting country statistics.

Polyethylene imports into Cuba in 2015 were: HDPE, 28,000 tons, up 24%, sourced mainly from Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, Spain and Mexico; LDPE, 10,000 tons, up 66%, Mexico the top source; polypropylene, 7000 tons, mainly from Colombia; and PET, 6000 tons, up 52%, Spain and Taiwan leading suppliers.

Cuba also imported 2200 tons of polyethylene bags/sacks, up 101%, and 9000 tons of polyethylene film/sheet, up 52%. Mexico was a key supplier of bags/sacks; Spain, Mexico and Brazil of film/sheet.
